Question 20
How do I keep my noisy dog quiet to avoid neighbor
disputes?
Advances in technology and the field of animal behavior have better armed us to deal with the age-old problem of the barking dog. It's helpful to determine why your dog is barking when left alone. If it's related to "separation anxiety", often herbal calming formulas are helpful. If it's boredom, try those toys that also function as food or treat dispensers to help with stimulation and provide distraction.
I've also seen much success with the citronella collar
to curb barking. When the dog barks, it emits a spray
of citronella with is unpleasant but not harmful. I've
also reviewed the collars that emit a slight electrical
impulse when the dog barks, and they too were effective
and not painful to the dog, though I know the idea takes
some getting used to.
