Febuary 2006
National Pet Theft Awareness Day
1. National Pet Theft Awareness Day
Tuesday, February 14. Each year on Valentine's Day, Last Chance for Animals' national campaign raises awareness of this tragic and all-too-common problem (as many as 2 million pets are stolen each year). Get details on how to get involved at www.stolenpets.com.
2. Spay Day USA
Tuesday, February 28. 2006 marks the 12th year of this event. Shelters across the United States are partnering with the Doris Day Animal League to encourage all citizens to spay or neuter the pets in their care. Visit www.ddaf.org/spayday for all the details.
3. Pet Dental Health Month
Few dogs and cats get the dental care they need and deserve, which often results in periodontal disease. Take this opportunity to start an at-home dental care routine your pet, along with regular check-ups. For more information on Pet Dental Health Month, visit www.avma.org.
4. Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show
The Westminster Kennel Club is America's oldest organization dedicated to the sport of purebred dogs. Established in 1877, Westminster's influence has been felt for more than a century through its famous all breed, benched dog show held every year at New York's Madison Square Garden. The show is America's second longest continuously held sporting event, behind only the Kentucky Derby: Showtime: February 13-14, 2006, 8:00 PM - 11:00 PM ET/PT, USA Networks; visit www.westminsterkennelclub.org.
