What can I do to help my overweight dog or cat lose
weight?
A visit to the vet is the first order of business,
in case a serious health problem is to blame, such as
diabetes. If illness is ruled out, it is time to help
the dog or cat slim down - just like obese people, overweight
pets are at risk for heart problems, liver disease and
premature death. Encourage your pet to exercise - dogs
love Frisbee® and fetch, and cats enjoy playing
with balls and chasing small moving objects (i.e. remote-control
cat toys) around the house. Also, closely monitor their
food intake and cut out treats.
