Selecting The Right Pet Food

There is no secret key or magic ingredient to selecting the right pet food. The only hard and fast rule I offer my clients is that any food they give their pets should have an AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officals) certification. After that the most important thing to me is that an animal enjoys his or her meals.

Food is not just a physical necessity, but offers one of the strongest opportunities for bonding between you and your pet. So taste is important. Just be aware that many foods with a pleasing taste are high in complex carbohydrates and fat. This is fine, as long as your animal gets enough exercise, as do working dogs or sled dogs, to counterbalance the added calories. If not, you may need to seek out another brand.

Your pet's diet should give them energy, a nice shiny coat, strong teeth and normal stools. Nothing complicated about it.
